HOME> Evacuation wamings

When a major earthquake strikes, and fires, landslides, or floods seem imminent, the local government or fire department may call for an evacuation.

Evacuation calls would be issued on the TV, radio, the community wireless system, or by vans with loudspeakers, so be sure to pay careful attention.

There are three types of evacuation calls, according to the level of risk, that could be issued by local government offices.

1. Information on preparation for an evacuation: (hinan junbi joho)
This call will be issued when it is feared that a disaster may happen and when people who will take time to evacuate need to start to escape.
  • Those who will take time in evacuating should start evacuating to an emergency shelter.
  • Those who can follow the normal evacuation procedures should start preparations for evacuating.
  • l Pay careful attention to information on the TV or radio etc..

2. Evacuation advisory: (hinan kankoku)
This call will be issued when there is a higher risk of a disaster occurring.
  • Those who can follow the normal evacuation procedures should start evacuating to an emergency shelter.

3. Evacuation instruction: (hinan shiji)
This call will be issued when a disaster is very likely.
  • Those who are in the midst of evacuating should complete evacuation procedures immediately.
  • Those who have not started evacuating should start evacuating immediately.
